Sketches Inspired by Life and the Zoo
There have been a number of fun and sensational events that happened over the last while and I finally sat down to sketch them out. First, I started a new job in July as a graphic designer / illustrator for an online marketing company. It has been very enjoyable so far! Nice coworkers, fun projects and the office is set in the upbeat and eclectic neighborhood of Eglinton + Yonge.
Just about everyday I’ve been discovering new and exciting parks, shops and spots around my workplace during lunch break. It’s a joy to escape for an hour and I feel as if I’m immersed in an urban wonderland. The above sketch depicts my daily journey from walking to work among crowded faces, passing by cute houses, daydreaming in parks and of course, about what I should wear tomorrow!
Another fun activity was having my first high tea with a friend on Queen West. Finger sandwiches, tea, fine conversation and my vintage-inspired outfit on that day made for the perfect afternoon. It felt oh-so delicate and feminine as if plucked from the pages of a storybook. (I’m thinking of turning both sketches + more into a series based on my fun experiences around the city!)
And last weekend I finally revisited one of my favourite parks in Toronto – High Park! This time I came with my sketchbook and jotted down furry animal friends at the zoo inside the park. Emu’s are so funny to me, they’re like ostriches but not quite and they make weird vibrating sounds. Needless to say I could just sit around and watch one for a day and that would be thoroughly entertaining.
