Illustration for Shameless Magazine

wendyding_madmen

My first illustration with Shameless magazine (Spring 2010 issue). This is a spot illo for an article on advertising and its influence in the media. Ads can be very pervasive these days whether we like it or not, and I had a lot of fun with this one. The above is the final that was picked since it was the most simple and to-the-point from all the roughs.

Thanks to Sheila for letting me wear my editorial illustration hat! Below are roughs that didn’t make the cut.

First idea: a frightened girl walking down “ad alley” where she’s bombarded by a plethora of billboards and signs vying for her attention.

Second idea: a girl in a department store is swarmed with advertisers pushing their product. Their brands are either “glamorous” or “green” in order to be more appealing, but is ultimately a facade and pervasive nonetheless.
