Food Girls Original Sketches

I’ve had some inquiries about what the Food Girls look like as sketches, so here they are!

Typically I start with an idea of how the girl will look, hairstyles, pose, etc and make a quick rough in my sketchbook. Then I surf the net for inspiration and collect reference images of colour, food, rendering style and anything else that’s helpful. Next, I scan the roughs and trace the basic shapes in Illustrator. When that’s done, I hop into Photoshop to experiment with textures and add more details.

I never quite know how it will turn out until I feel I’m close to the end. For the more recent girls (Candy Apple, Lollipop, Donut), I’ve been trying to finish them within a two week time frame.

So yep, that’s basically how the Food Girls come to life!

Ra Ra

Ra ra rrroma-ma! Here’s a drawing I did for my friend Liz at TCAF on Saturday. She asked for a monster so I immediately thought of Lady Gaga, hence her album “The Fame Monster”. Plus she calls all her fans “little monsters”. I know this because I’m one of them!

Liz was ecstatic at how I captured Gaga’s nose. The flame in the background was her idea.

Subway Sketching

Over the weekend, I joined my friend Peter Chan for some subway sketching. It was nice to get back into life sketching as I haven’t done it in so long.

Another Sunday, another group of fashionistas Wendy-style! The latest trends are close to my personal fashion loves: feather hair accessories, cropped tops, waist-belts, and leggings! Since I can’t possibly own all of them, I’ll just draw them for now…

Oh and I was listening to Michael Jackson when I drew this and there are some homages to him. Can anyone spot them?

Happy Tuesday!

Oh my, clothing stores sure are filled with sales galore this time of year. It gets overwhelming to be in one for too long as I’m too weak when it comes to fashion indulgences. So, I opted to draw my favourite fashion finds instead. Nothing too fancy, just some quick sketching followed with colour experimentation in Photoshop.

Fashion Girls

Sketching is fun! I’d like to turn some of these into finals for a series. I’ve been wanting to explore some of my favourite subjects like fashion, dance and movement and can’t wait to combine them all!

These are some sketches depicting those very things. Oh how I adore lines, shading and simple textures. The last one is inspired by memories of going out partying with girl friends and having a silly ol’ time. I think some of them look a bit drunk, haha.

These are some sketches I drew earlier this year. Although the majority of my finished work is done digitally, I will always enjoy exploring lines and shapes with pen on paper. Fashion illustration remains a favourite.

I’m working on a new illustration, finally! Feels so good to do a personal piece since I haven’t done one in ages, and especially because I return to my first love: fashion! Well, fashion + emotions. I’m thinking it will be a series.
